Puppy Chow for the Fourth -- Take Two

Image found here

(I published this post way back in 2010, but thought it merited another read. Although I don't think I'll be making a batch this year, still this recipe brings back such fun memories. Happy Fourth of July!)

Around here, it wouldn't be the Fourth of July without a big ol' batch of Puppy Chow sitting on the counter. I never make it any other time of year, and for good reason. It's irresistible. Here's the recipe - and for all you Yanks out there, happy Independence Day!

Puppy Chow (AKA Muddy Buddies)

9C of crispy corn, wheat, or rice checkerboard shaped cereal. Chex, for example.
1C semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2C peanut butter
1/4C butter
1 tsp vanilla
2C powdered sugar

Pour cereal into a large bowl. Set aside.
In a microwaveable bowl, mix chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave on high, stirring periodically just until mixture is smooth. Stir in vanilla.

Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and mix until cereal is coated evenly. Pour mixture into a paper bag, or large zip-lock plastic bag.

Add powdered sugar and seal bag. Shake until evenly coated. Spread out on cookie sheet until chocolate cools and firms up.

Carry cooled puppy chow to the back yard, lie back in the grass, and begin munching as neighborhood kids set off illegal fireworks.

Kaplowie! Bang! Zing!

Oooooooooo. Aaaaahhhhhhhhh.
