I Need a New Rug

Ooo. Ahhh. Pretty Christmas scene, yes?

Well, um, yes. It is. But it wasn't so scenic just a few hours earlier........

It all started a few days ago as I was rushing around the house, tidying and tweaking the Christmas decorations in anticipation of the arrival of a few guests. One woman in particular had never visited us before, and since I had a bit of energy, I fussed and dusted and John vacuumed. I went to bed feeling smug about my preparations. Yesterday, after everyone had arrived and was clustered in the living room admiring the Christmas tree, I flushed with pride as I was complimented on the holiday decor. That is.....

Until.

Until I noticed that one of my guests had stepped in a pile of dog poo. That had been deposited squarely in front of the tree. IN MY LIVING ROOM. ON MY RUG. AND ON, AND AROUND, AND UNDER HER SHOE.

This was not one of my better hostess moments. And could hardly be considered a festive addition to my seasonal decorations.

So the next hour was spent trying to clean the guest's shoe, my rug, and the hardwood flooring on which said doggie doo doo was tracked through two additional rooms. It was not what I had planned for the afternoon's entertainment.

Maggie and Lulu insisted that they had nothing to do with the whole incident. They blamed our doggie buddy Skippy, who had paid us a visit and perhaps left a parting gift in my living room just an hour before the guests arrived. Although I'm tempted to agree with the girls since it's been ages since they've had an accident of this magnitude, we'll never truly know who the real culprit was.

But one thing's for certain. I am SO checking for doggie doo doo before any more holiday parties around THIS house.

Repeat after me, Julia: Pride goeth before a fall; Pride goeth before a fall; Pride goeth before a fall........

Oh dear! Not something that a hostess expects to deal with at a party...

Hilarious...only could something like this happen to you. :-) I have a Maltese (Stuart Little...I did not name him) and nothing smells worse than dog poo. I bet your guest was not a dog lover either.
