Positive Reinforcement

I have been reading the Beck Diet Solution, by Judith S. Beck, Ph.D.,as mentioned in an earlier post. It has been a very interesting and challenging book, based on the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy. The book suggests that it's readers complete a series of exercises designed to create new and healthier mental responses to food stimuli. Currently, I'm working on Chapter 5 , and my favorite exercise in this section of the book focuses on giving yourself credit.
"Do you have a tendency to focus on the negative, berating yourself for everything you do wrong? To counteract this tendency, it's important for you to learn to give yourself credit for everything you do right."
I think I like this chapter. I think this is my favorite chapter so far.

Hmm. What have I done right this week? Probably the best achievement this week was keeping my appointment with my new dietician buddy, Kelly. Definitely time well spent both for information and motivation.

Let's see......what else?

Well, today, while rummaging around the kitchen pantry, after finding an old bag of chocolate chips stuffed back in the bottom shelf having probably been there for three years or so......I am giving myself credit for only eating half of them. Yessir. Took real self control to not simply dump the whole bag into my mouth, but I held back. Especially after I noticed that they had turned a grey color and tasted slightly rancid.

I feel thinner already.
