One to Watch

The FDA is beginning a safety review of TNF (tumor necrosis factor) blocking drugs, article from HealthDay News here. This is interesting reading, especially for those of us who are taking these medications.

Examples of TNF blockers include Enbrel (etanercept), Remicade (infliximab), Humira (infliximab), and Cimzia (certolizumab). These drugs are commonly used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and are being examined by the FDA to investigate a potential link between their use and increased cancer, especially when prescribed for children and young adults. TNF blockers have also been linked to an increase in infections.
