I Got You, Babe

Our rings. And yes, after all these years, they're a bit beat up. So are we.

Today, John and I are celebrating our thirtieth wedding anniversary.

Thirty years! Groovy.

After church yesterday, when the sanctuary was quiet and empty, we asked our pastor to bless our marriage as we look ahead to many more years together. It was a lovely moment. Afterwards, as we headed down the aisle, arms linked, I looked up and saw Terese preparing for the next service up in the choir loft.

"Hey, Terese! A little wedding recessional music please!"

Joh and I both began to laugh as we heard her quietly tap out the opening bars of The Beer Barrel Polka.

Ah. She knows us too well......

But in retrospect, one could choose worse songs for an after-the-wedding celebration. Goodness knows we rolled out the barrel after our wedding. Here's the lyrics:

There's a garden, what a garden Only happy faces bloom there And there's never any room there For a worry or a gloom there Oh there's music and there's dancing And a lot of sweet romancing When they play the polka They all get in the swing Every time they hear that oom-pa-pa Everybody feels so tra-la-la They want to throw their cares away They all go lah-de-ah-de-ay Then they hear a rumble on the floor, the floor It's the big surprise they're waiting for And all the couples form a ring For miles around you'll hear them sing... Roll out the barrel, we'll have a barrel of fun Roll out the barrel, we've got the blues on the run Sing boom tararra, ring out a song of good cheer Now's the time to roll the barrel, for the gang's all here

Happy Anniversary Julia and John, with many, many more happy years together. I laughed at your previous post about the salad, and I thought today's would be solemn and befitting an anniversary post, but as usual, Julia, there is a twist....you always have me in stitches. It must be a "barrel" of laughs in your home. Better to laugh than to cry, crying resolves nothing and laughing brings out some good endorphins! To many more laughs in your lives.
